1. Parks and Recreation
Arbor Day had 350 3rd graders from School District 5
participating in the celebration at Lawrence Park. Education
booths were hosted by seventeen organizations and twenty-
four businesses sponsored the event. Twenty-five volunteers
showed up to assist in planting seven trees in Lawrence Park
and another thirty trees in other parks throughout the
community. The DNRC was on hand to present Kalispell its
thirty-eighth award as a Tree City USA.
Park Staff are continuing to work on charging all park
irrigation systems. Staff are also preparing flower beds
throughout city parks.
A contractor recently finished installing upgraded electronic pump controls and 2 new
frequency drive pumps in the 2 production wells for irrigation at KYAC. This allows the
system to irrigate all the fields in the short watering window more efficiently, provides
redundancy and adds capacity.
Program registration started on April 14 for all summer camps
and summer activities. The Parks and Recreation summer/fall
activity guide was distributed on April 28 in the Daily Interlake.
Additional program guides will be distributed to areas schools.
Planning continues for summer programs as we are working with
local businesses and venues to provide meaningful and
entertaining field trips and experiences for campers. As of this
writing, Camp Woodland has reached close to 65% of the available capacity and
specialty camps are at 50% or more of the available capacity.
Preparations are underway at Woodland Waterpark for the 2025 swim season. The lap
pool has been drained and power washed and is ready for a new pool liner installation in
early June. Hiring is in progress for the season with an estimated 45-55 employees
2
joining the aquatics team. Two seasonal assistant aquatics coordinators have been hired.
One will focus on programs and the other concessions. One more seasonal assistant
coordinator position will be hired who will focus on maintenance.
Spring Soccer began on April 16 with 362 players registered for the program. Picture day
for teams will be May 7 and 8.
2. Public Works
Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR)
All Public Water Suppliers are required to provide
consumers with an annual water quality report, i.e.
Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). Kalispell’s CCR is
available via the Website and has City source water quality
information for the 2024 calendar year. Notification for the
2024 CCR will be placed on the May Utility bill and will be
advertised through the City’s social media outlets.
Lower Zone Tank #1 Replacement
The Lower Zone Tank Replacement - Reservoir 1 project near the Buffalo Hill Golf
Course Maintenance Facility is progressing on schedule. The old tank has been removed,
the under-slab piping has been completed, and the contractor is completing the structural
aggregate foundation for the tank. The prime contractor on the project is expected to
mobilize to the site on June 2 to start construction of the new 2.5 million-gallon cast-in-
place concrete tank. Design plans are progressing on the Reservoir 2 project which is
expected to be ready to bid this summer for construction following completion and
activation of Reservoir 1.
