Dear Council Members,
Beker Rengifodel Castillo was illegally arrested by Border Patrol agents in downtown Whitefish on Thursday (April
24). Beker is part of the CHNV parole program set up by President Biden. It is a legal protection program that was
reaffirmed by a federal judge. HE IS IN THE UNITED STATES LEGALLY.
Caring citizens in our community got him a lawyer and they were assured by Border Patrol that he would not be taken to
ICE until he could speak to his lawyer the next morning. But they were lying. He was moved during the night. That alone
should anger all of us.....
Beker is here legally and I am sure he came because he believed in the United States. He does not belong in ICE
custody. He has no criminal record. He was pulled over because of a broken taillight. Have any of you been to a foreign
country? Put yourself in his shoes.
We have been told that Border Patrol is being used as a "translation service". I am quite sure this is not true and is "code"
for an immigration check.
I am asking you to get clarification about police policy on translation services and to insist that the police department use a
neutral interpreter NOT Border Patrol. It is obvious they cannot be trusted
I am sickened that this is happening in our community. PLEASE DO NOT TURN AWAY FROM HELPING TO STOP
THIS.
