1. Public Works
Sand Shed Replacement Project
The City of Kalispell is actively soliciting bids for the Sand Shed Replacement Project.
The project consists of furnishing materials, labor, and equipment required to construct a
3,800 square foot shed for the storage of sand and other aggregates. The sand shed will
replace an existing dilapidated, undersized shed located at the city shop facility. Bids
will be opened on Thursday, March 9. Upon approval of the contractor, construction will
commence, with a scheduled completion date of Summer 2017.
Peterson Alley Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project
The city is actively soliciting bids for the Peterson Alley Sanitary Sewer Improvement
Project. The project consists of _
furnishing labor, materials and Peterson School Alley Sewer Replacement
equipment required to replace an
existing undersized, impaired sewer
main with approximately 600 linear
feet of eight - (8) inch SDR 35 PVC
sewer main, sanitary sewer
manholes, sanitary sewer service
connections, and provide pavement
surface, concrete and landscape
restoration. Bids will be opened on
Thursday, March 23. Upon
approval of the contractor,
construction will commence with a scheduled completion date of June 2017.
2. City Clerk/Communications Manager
Many of the citizen advisory boards and committees have terms that will expire April 30.
The City Clerk is currently soliciting applications for these volunteer positions. More
information on each board and committee and an online, fillable, application can be
found at the city website under the City Council tab. Board members with terms expiring
are asked to fill out the online application if they would like to apply for another term.
3. Fire Department
Since the last update, the Kalispell Fire Department have received 141 calls for service.
Fire department staff are preparing the required paper work and training records for the
re -certification process for EMT licensure. In order to re -certify, a specific number of
hours of class room, self -study, hands on training, and other certifications are required
and must be tracked in order to receive certification.
Fire Department staff and members of the regional hazmat team recently sponsored a
Modular Emergency Response Radiological Transportation Training (MERRTT). This
2-day course provided fundamental knowledge for responding to transportation incidents
involving radiological materials.
4. Building Department
There were 3 single family building permits issued in the past 2 weeks. This brings the
total for the year to 9 compared to last year at this time when 17 residential building
permits had been issued.
Three commercial permits were issued to the hospital including a remodel for the
Microbiology Lab valued at $25,000, a remodel for Outpatient Imaging valued at
$175,000, and a remodel for Outpatient Infusion valued at $77,000. A permit for the
Town pump Car Wash on the corner of 5th Ave E and W. Idaho St was issued: valued at
$105,000.
5. Planning Department
The Council sub -committee working on the Kalispell Growth Policy update met this past
Tuesday and completed their review of the document. The draft Growth Policy will be
sent back to the Planning Board for a final public hearing, tentatively scheduled for the
April Planning Board meeting.
6. Parks and Recreation
Little Squirts basketball has started for the season. We have 78 pre -kindergarten children
participating in the program at Hedges Elementary School this winter. Squirts had their
individual and team pictures last week. A portion of the revenue from the pictures goes
to help fund KPR's scholarship program. The scholarship fund allows us to offer
discounted rates to families with financial need (up to $100 per child per year).
The Little Dribblers basketball registration deadline was on Friday, February 24. We
have 185 participants (K-2nd grade) that will be starting league play on March 11 at
Russell Elementary School.

Kalispell Kickers indoor soccer program will start on Saturday, March 4 at Flathead High
School in the small gymnasium. We have 76 children participating in this year's
program.
The parks crew has begun to demo the inside of the Woodland Park restrooms near the
main pavilion. New fixtures, paint, partitions, and epoxied floors are planned for this
spring. Plans are also being made to make some improvements to the camp center
restrooms as well.
Flathead Electric continues to partner with the City of Kalispell Urban Forestry division.
In recent weeks they have removed two hazardous trees in the city right of way that were
near high voltage power lines. Park crews assisted with street closures and hauling away
of the larger pieces of wood.
Parks staff have taken possession of a used 2013 1 ton Chevy flatbed. The truck has been
updated with a hydraulic hoist for dumping and a new flatbed. This truck replaced a
1987 GMC.
