URBAN FORESTRY COMMITTEE
Minutes
Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 4 - 5 p.m.
In attendance: Tree Board Members- Erin Stieber, April Vomfell, Martin Rippens, Bette,
Emma, Staff- Fred B, Alison M,
Public Comment: None Given
Approve Minutes:
o Erin moved for March minutes to be approved, Judy seconded. All approved.
Current Business:
o Arbor Day Review
o Location- Lawrence Park – Good location overall
o Kids- Erin
• Bette – Add teachers to follow up email, what was good, what could
be better next year. Just a brief survey of the day.
• Need to remember kids could have disabilities that could prevent
them from doing the nature trail.
• Kids that are working need to show up at 8:30
o Food- Tony
• Start earlier 10:30 if making burgers.
• Needed mayo 😊 potato salad from FVCC was late arriving
• Hot Lunch is good for volunteers especially if cold out
• Price was good and comparable to previous years.
• Had the right about of veggies
o Booths- April
• April brought thank you cards for all of us to sign.
• Should we add more schools to next year?
o Sponsors- Judy
• We had 10 less sponsors.
• It was mentioned that we could do a banner, or plotter with logos on it
as a thank you to the sponsors in addition to social media posts.
o Volunteers- Martin
• We had LOTS of sponsor volunteers
• Clean up crew? Ask Colter next time
o Media- Bette
• Add sponsors to media
• Interlake did an article.
o Outreach- Emma
• Bias trivia Tuesday 23rd Good turn out!
• After party 4-7 on arbor day Was fun lots of people. Beer was ok.
• Sweet Peaks did not offer a special sunde or $1 off.
• BID ? we are not sure if anything came from this. Try again next year
earlier.
o Ceremony- Fred
• Wild Wings was great at the beginning. Maybe have them start later?
• Ran out of Small and Medium TShirts.
o Logistics –
• Two volunteer teams ended up going to same spot.
• Need more help with sign setup, possible golf cart ?
o Urban Forestry Day Camp

• Trees for Life doing a contract for 30 trees in Woodland & Lions
