URBAN FORESTRY COMMITTEE
Minutes
Wednesday, March 13, 2024, 4 - 5 p.m.
In attendance: Tree Board Members- Erin Stieber, April Vomfell, Bette Albright, Martin
Rippens, Judy Rosenfeld Cox, Staff- Fred B, Alison M, Colter H, Guests: Arthur Fretheim,
Kelly Franklin, Montana Urban and Community Forestry Executive Director.
Public Comment: No public comment was given.
Approve Minutes:
o Martin moved for February minutes to be approved, Judy seconded. All approved.
Current Business:
o Arbor Day
▪ Kids-Erin
FHS has list of guides. GHS still needs to be reached out. Erin will remind
schools.
▪ Food-Tony
Fred said the estimate for food is under $300, cookies, fruit, and burgers.
Plates not in estimate. Tuesday, the week of Arbor Day Barb B. and Bette A.
will help with prepping.
▪ Booths-April
April said 10 people have said YES. MT Wild Wings would like to do a Alt
option after the ceremony with all the kids. The board agreed to try it this
year.
▪ Sponsors- Judy
$2,600 raised. Hoping to raise $4,500.

Have some volunteers with the sponsorship letters

Martin said he would reach out to Fair Board.
▪ Fred will work on Map of Lawerence
o Urban Forestry Day Camp
▪ Fred has asked for help with Parks and Rec summer day camp as they will be
doing a whole forestry week this year. Multiple people seemed interested
depending on what week it is in the summer. 100 kids will attend camp.
▪ Pine coned bird feeders, Tree ID, bark rubs, leaf collections, bug collections,
tree scavenger hunt, tree planting, making paper, tree games. Were
suggestions made. Colter said yes to a Rec Climb during the week.
o Cost Share Program
▪ 15 sent out 3 or 4 have been filled out and returned already. 68 trees are
ordered.
o Arborist Update – Colter
▪ Merganser looks good from previous pruning. 1000 trees were pruned this
winter. Empire and Northridge are done.
