SUBJECT: Appointment to the Architectural Review Committee
MEETING DATE: January 21, 2025
BACKGROUND: The Architectural Review Committee was first created in 2010 and most
recently modified in 2021, as codified in Kalispell code 27.21.020. The Committee was
established to encourage originality, flexibility and innovation in site planning and development.
The Mayor, with the approval of Council shall appoint at least five persons, with qualifications
including, but not limited to, special education, training, or experience in financing of commercial
real property, architecture, historic preservation, or landscape architecture; active engagement in
business, commerce or industry; and/or education, training or experience in the area of graphic or
allied arts. Whenever possible, the mayor shall appoint individuals who are either property
owners, residents, historic preservation specialists, or actively engaged in business or employment
in the city. Seven ARC members has been considered a full Committee.
This Committee has one ongoing vacancy. One new qualifying applicant has been received.
RECOMMENDATION: Mayor Johnson offer a recommendation to appoint Annie Canfield
to the Architectural Review Committee with a term expiring April 30, 2028. Council can
then follow with a motion to accept the recommendation and confirm the appointment or
offer an alternative.

I believe design is a form of service to individuals and the community as a whole. As
someone that lives and works here in Kalispell I'd like to help in any way I can to
preserve the very reasons I choose to live here and help to better the community for
years to come.

or commission:
I have a Bachelors of Interior Architecture and Design from Utah State University. I've
worked in the industry for 3 years. I prioritize active listening as a way to build bridges of
understanding and best collaborate with others. I'm passionate about projects that will
create a positive impact for the City of Kalispell and those it serves.
