Re: Concerns Regarding Tronstad Meadows Whitetail Crossing Development
Dear City Council Members,
As a longtime resident of Kalispell and a realtor who's helped many families find their homes here and
assisted developers in developing land in this north Kalispell area, I've seen and supported the changes
our community has gone through. But I cannot support this. While growth is important, it needs to be
done thoughtfully and responsibly. That's why I'm writing to express my concerns about the proposed
Tronstad Meadows Whitetail Crossing subdivision.
Having raised my daughter in this beautiful valley, I'm invested in ensuring Kalispell remains a safe,
welcoming place for families, with the proper infrastructure to support our growth. The traffic issues that
have been flagged with this development are alarming. I drive Tronstad frequently and it is a hazardous
narrow road now, with sub-par intersections at both ends.
I'm worried about moving forward with a subdivision that relies solely on an underdeveloped county road
for access. The added traffic will only make things worse unless the necessary upgrades are completed
first.
But most importantly for me, I'm very concerned that the city seems ready to approve a subdivision
application in which both the developer's own study and an independent review show that the
intersection at Highway 93 and Tronstad Road will fail without a traffic signal in place from the beginning.
The Montana Department of Transportation hasn't committed to a timeline, which leaves a huge gap in
safety planning.
The Planning Board approved this development without requiringthe signal before Phase 1. This is a
critical mistake that could jeopardize the safety of current and future residents. Kalispell's Design
Standards clearly state that developments must maintain or improve road conditions, and this project
will fail to meet those standards without immediate action.
I urge you, as someone who loves this community and wants to see it thrive, to condition any approval on
having that traffic signal fully operational before Phase 1. Let's make sure our growth enhances, not
undermines, the safety and quality of life for all who call Kalispell home.
1
Than kyou for your consideration. Please vote NO on this application, and if you vote to approve it, please
consider making it conditional upon the light being installed before Phase 1 building begins.
Sincerely,
Judy Martinson
