Subject: EXTERNAL Tronstad Meadows/Whitetail Crossing
Mr. Mayor and City Council,
If this proposed subdivision is approved, please condition the following:
• Remove Condition 19 as the City of Kalispell will not give residents in
Koenig subdivision written assurances that Koenig Subdivision can
not be forced annexed into the City. By improving Tronstad Road to
City Standards in front of Koenig subdivision will ultimately surround
the Subdivision by City.
• Traffic Lights must be installed prior to final plat of phase1 . Two
Traffic experts Bob Abelin with Abelin Traffic Services and Rick Nys
with Greenlight Engineering recommend this as well. In the packet
submitted page 1587 last paragraph Bob Abelin states "The signal be
installed prior to the build-out of homes in Phase V' Rick Ny's report
states the same.
• Require a design of the Intersection of Tronstad Road and Highway 93
be reconfigured to be squared up, not a skewed intersection. There is
property available to acquire to make this happen. With the dense
fog that sets in by November 1 through the winter makes it difficult to
navigate through a skewed intersection safely.
You must not allow a catastrophic accident to happen at this intersection by allowing all
turn motions without a traffic light. This is opening the City to negligence knowing the
risks approving this without lights installed. With the current traffic lights at the
intersection of Rose Crossing and a new Traffic light being installed where the new Costco
is going will result in folks picking up speed on Highway 93 North to make up time and
most likely speeds of 70 plus miles an hour and having the Tronstad Road and Highway 93
Intersection without a traffic light will result in a major accident.
Please do the right thing at this intersection.
Respectfully submitted
Colby Shaw
