Before Building Up, Let’s Strengthen the Foundation Public Comment from Emma Lovejoy & Caden Gilmond Aimee Brunckhorst From: Emma Lovejoy <em.lovejoy11 @gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2024 7:52 AM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Before Building Up, Let's Strengthen the Foundation: A Call for Responsible Growth in Kalispell - NO or at Least Conditions on Tronstad Meadows Whitetail Crossing Dear City Council, My fiance and I both grew up in Kalispell, and we now live in Marion with our young daughter. We've been dreaming about moving back into town, to be closer to family, friends, and a strong community. But as we consider the future, we can't help but be worried about how things Kalispell is handling the rapid growth it's experiencing, especially with developments like Tronstad Meadows Whitetail Crossing. I grew up on Whitefish Stage and in Silverbrook Estates, and I've seen how traffic and safety issues have increased as Kalispell has expanded. Honestly, I'm concerned about bringing our family back into town if developments like this continue to get greenlit without the infrastructure to support them. Tronstad Road? It's already a problem. Without significant improvements, especially at the intersection with Highway 93, we're setting ourselves up for traffic gridlock and real safety concerns. You each and all probably know not to build a home on a weak foundation. You wouldn't start building the second story of a house without making sure the first floor was solid, right? The same goes for our roads. Why approve hundreds of new lots/homes before we've even addressed the critical traffic infrastructure needed to support them? Kalispell is our home. We want to see it grow, but we also want it to grow responsibly. If the City Council approves this development, please, make it conditional on the installation of the much- needed operational traffic signal at Troinstad Road and 93. Let's make sure Kalispell remains a place we all want to come home to. Thank you, Emma Lovejoy & Caden Gilmond Marion Residents (Hoping to Move Back to Kalispell) 1
