Subject: EXTERNAL Golf course lease - public comment
Dear Council members,
I am a golfer and adjacent property owner to the Buffalo Hills Cameron nine -hole golf course.
have long observed the hazards for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling along US Hwy 93 from
Oregon St to the medical complex/H-I zone and beyond to FVCC.
The golf course stretch of Hwy 93 is dangerous all year around, but in winter snow and ice
make it even more difficult. The choice of walking in the ditch or on the pavement closer to
moving traffic is a tough one. On short winter days the lack of lighting is also a factor.
The lease language in 7.b does not clarify that the City/Lessor would have a specific, formal
easement for any "encroachment" on the Lessee's property for purpose of a sidewalk/path. It
may also be necessary to add additional protective fencing, such as a partial or offset chain -link
canopy to deflect errant golf balls, and to address snow removal.
The golf course west boundary's overdue pedestrian link would then leave Mission St and/or
ILH's Buffalo Hill Terrace section of Hwy 93 as the remaining, critically needed pedestrian
improvements in this area.
Thank you for approving a lease that furthers public safety in Kalispell. I hope for an early
realization of this sidewalk project.
