Main Street Safety Plan Support Letter from the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce
July 15, 2024
City of Kalispell
Honorable Mayor and City Council
RE: Support for the Main Street Safety Action Plan (SAP)
Dear City Council –
For the past six months, a PAC committee has worked with stafi to develop the plan
before you this evening. This PAC was made up of developers, community
representatives, professional service providers, and Flathead County. Stafi
established a robust and strategic process and executed it in concert with the PAC
and Kittleson & Associates. The plan included data collection and analysis of current
conditions, public outreach for input in the beginning and prioritization of priorities
towards the end, future conditions analysis, priority locations, and potential project
development, ultimately leading to the Safety Action Plan.
Transportation infrastructure is a high priority for the Kalispell Chamber and business
leadership. Keeping our economic hub (downtown) corridor safe and working in the
most functional capacity possible is vital for freight and business mobility, residents,
and visitors alike. The Safety Plan will connect to the Move 2040 plan, Downtown Plan
(Main Street Redesign Study), and Courthouse Couplet Study and integrate what will
ultimately result in the next phase of preliminary concept design and cost estimates
to achieve a coordinated and safe corridor.
We support the Safety Action Plan and are grateful to have had a seat at the table to
design this community-speciffc framework to work towards eliminating fatal and
serious injuries on our roadways.
Sincerely,
Lorraine Clarno
President/CEO
