Comment re: Resolution 6213 Public Comment from Chance CabralAimee Brunckhorst From: Chance Cabral <chancecabral@hotmail.com> Sent: Sunday, July 14, 2024 9:49 AM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Comment re: Resolution 6213 To the mayor, and city council, regarding Resolution 6213 (and the general antagonistic atmosphere regarding homeless people): Regardless of how much fervour is generated, how uncomfortable the most vocal of our citizens feign to be at the thought of the existence of homeless persons: you should not be creating an amalgamation of punitive measures that do little more than allow you to sic the police on poor unhoused people. On top of that, considering removing one of the few existing safety nets that is the Flathead Warming Shelter is a complete disgrace. In the end it is your personal choice, your bias, the amount which you think you can get away with dehumanising homeless people without appearing to be monsters to the loudest, most monstrous among us. And no person who leverages violence, or the threat of violence, to keep homeless people unsheltered, uncomfortable, and unsafe, deserves to hold government office of any sort nor have any modicum of power over other people's lives. Vote to keep the warming center's license. Keep (or perhaps more fittingly: start) working toward more robust solutions to assist homeless people and keep them safe. Stop playing around with the cartoon villainy of anti - homeless punitive measures like shutting off water to parks and making benches uncomfortable; that kind of sheer malignancy has no place in Kalispell.
