City Works Regs Public Comment from B KrystkowiakAimee Brunckhorst From: Bernie Krystkowiak <berniekrystkowiak@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, June 20, 2024 10:40 AM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Cc: info@villagegreenshoa.com; Jana Purdy Subject: EXTERNAL City Works Regs Dear Mayor and Council members, A second email/comment to you folks having received no reply from anyone to the first one. I'm in Ward two, Village Greens. The current construction regs as they pertain to driveway measurements allowed are onerous and burdensome to residents wanting to replace their aging driveways as they've existed for many years. In my situation long put aside funds for such a project have proved futile because recently adopted regs mandate that I redesign it to conform with said regs without good reasoning or cause. I realize the need for conformity from a certain point moving forward but cannot understand why there is NO variance application process in place to accommodate replacing existing structures that met all codes in place when built. I've been told in no uncertain terms by Public Works that there is NO variance process! In the case of Village Greens where I've lived for twenty one years, many of the homes are less than five years old and their driveways would not comply with the new rules. To throw down a gauntlet evidently a couple years ago without any latitude is very troublesome to long term owners wanting to improve their property. The homes that are not newer are aging and many driveways need replacement now or will very soon. The idea that I should have to redesign (to a far less functional and odd shaped design), along with the re -landscaping, irrigation work and expense it would entail are ridiculously excessive. It is very likely some folks might decide to avoid the permitting process and complete their project without scrutiny. I'm not one of those but it is happening and that is not acceptable to anyone wanting to be above board. Please consider some form of relief in these situations as opposed to the "one size fits all, no exceptions" set of codes now in place. I would be most appreciative of some reply as to receipt and reading of my email. Respectfully, B. Krystkowiak 406-250-7492
