Work Session/Warming Center Public Comment from Pam CyrJudi Funk From: Pam Cyr <pamcyr.mt@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2024 10:07 AM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Work session/ warming center Dear Members of the Kalispell City Council, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere concern about the issue of homelessness in our community and to propose a proactive approach in addressing this pressing issue. I am a native Montanan, and have lived in Kalispell for 30 years. We live on the East side on dry bridge park. Prior to the warming shelter opening, the park just below my home was a favorite spot for temporary shelter by unhoused in the community. I was recently on a Jury that heard a case of a Police officer being injured by a man at the warming center while responding to a call for assistance in removing him. The deliberation was emotionally charged with the issue of mental health and public safety. Having watched the meeting last night, I was deeply moved by the comments and feedback. It appears we have committed non-profit organizations dedicated to tackling homelessness in Kalispell. It was evident that these organizations are doing invaluable work, and I believe that their efforts deserve our full support and recognition. In light of this, I would like to request that the City Council take steps to include links and contact information for the non-profit organizations that spoke at the meeting in any official documentation or online resources related to the issue of homelessness. By doing so, we can ensure that individuals who are inspired to support these organizations or seek assistance know exactly how to get in touch and contribute to their efforts. Furthermore, I would like to offer myself as a volunteer to be part of any citizen board or committee established to address the issue of homelessness in Kalispell. I am retired and deeply committed to making a positive difference in our community, and I believe that by working together, we can develop effective strategies to support those in need and create a more inclusive and compassionate society, address mental illness resources along with public safety. We must move forward with action and brainstorm solutions to protect our community and all it's residents. Thankyou foryour dedication to serving the residents of Kalispell. I look forward to hearing from you soon and to contributing to the important work ahead. Sincerely, Pamela Cyr Pamcyrmt gmail.com
