I have been and continue to be a volunteer at the Warming Center. I'm saddened to learn of our
city's plans to repeal the Conditional Use Permit. I feel as if there is little understanding on the
part of the Council on the complex issues facing all of us regarding the issue of homelessness,
and, consequently, those who are in most need are penalized and disregarded, once again.
Yes, there are problems, but we need to work TOGETHER to solve them with increased
resources —not simply "blame the victim," kicking them down the road to who knows where.
I have found the Warming center a place of refuge. There is structure for those who enter and
there is accountability. It is a safe place —offering essentials to human life. In our Christian
valley —are we not called to do what we are able for those with the least?
We need to understand, not judge those who may appear to be different than we are, for "there
but for the grace of God, go I."
