To Kalispell City Council Members:
My husband and I wish to express our concern over the warming center that is in our neighborhood.
We believe it is wonderful to try to help the people that are in hard times and have unexpected things happen
to them to cause them to be homeless. But it is entirely a different story when the warming center is used to
enable people to abuse and milk the system to get free food and lodging because they do not want to be
responsible and work. All they want is handouts. What is worse is that many are coming from out of our area
to get the free handouts. They are on drugs, and many are violent and commit crimes in our area.
We live in the most crime ridden and dangerous neighborhood in Kalispell. My husband and I do not feel safe.
My husband will rarely let me even go for a walk alone in our neighborhood, or go to our garden in the
community garden plots. Plus we feel that if this continues the value of our home will decrease. We have seen
in our neighborhood a couple having sex or what looked like it on the lawn under a tree. There have been
murders just blocks from us.
Please either close the warming center or set up regulations so that those using the warming center have to
be tested for drugs and if on drugs they are not admitted. There should be requirements to help clean and do
other duties to help the warming center, they should not be allowed to just get free handouts.
Just giving free handouts is enabling them and encouraging them to continue to abuse themselves and others
and have a free license to commit crimes.
