#KGPA-24-01 Opposition to Hastily Approving the Amendment for Tronstad Meadows_Whitetail Crossing Annexation Public Comment from Dan and Ming MunsingSubject: Opposition to Hastily Approving the Amendment for Tronstad Meadows/Whitetail Crossing Annexation
Dear Honorable Mayor Johnson and Members of the Kalispell City Council,
We are writing to express our concerns regarding the proposed amendment to the Kalispell Growth Policy that would allow for the annexation of Tronstad Meadows / Whitetail Crossing subdivision.
At last week’s meeting, the developers and others in favor of this amendment emphasized the need for "haste" in approving the amendment, annexing the land, and creating more housing.
It’s important to recognize that "haste" is a tactic often employed by car salesmen to rush buyers into making decisions without adequate time for due diligence. While this analogy highlights
the pitfalls of hasty decisions, the implications here are far more serious. The fact-finding, assessment, and decision-making process before your vote on June 3rd should not be rushed.
The Growth Policy Plan-It 2035 clearly states that all decisions should be made carefully and without prejudice, ensuring they do not benefit the interests of a single party. Hasty
decisions could corrupt the entire growth process in our community, affecting the future of our city planning and the lives of future generations.
For these reasons, we ask Honorable Mayor Mark Johnson and each city council member to accept our invitation to visit the proposed annexation site. We invite you to walk Tronstad Rd.
and see the site of the proposed development. However, if you walk Tronstad, be careful because it is not a pedestrian safe zone. Be prepared to jump into a ditch if a car comes. Please
pay special attention to two blind hills on Tronstad directly east of the proposed subdivision. Seeing the area firsthand will allow you to better assess the appropriateness of amending
the growth policy for one developer.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We trust that you will consider the long-term interests of our community and make a decision that reflects responsible and sustainable planning
principles.
Sincerely,
Dan and Ming Munzing
