Comment on Tronstad development Public Comment from Dominic ForbushTo whom it may concern,
This is in regard to the proposed development off Tronstad Rd. I am extremely against this development for the following three reasons:
1) affordable housing is the alleged motivation for the rezoning. However, vacant-yet-unaffordable homes on similarly zoned land sit in the next lot West and plenty more in Silver Springs,
300m west across the highway. Nothing in the proposed amendment mandates or controls the price of the constructed houses: nothing about this will buffer affordable housing in the valley.
2) Single family zoning and construction is unsustainable and inefficient. 380 Single family homes, if instead constructed as 380 family apartments + parking, would occupy 20% of the
land area. This will preserve the character and agricultural open spaces of our valley for as long as possible. It is the only way to prevent the unsustainable and destructive suburban
sprawl of Kalispell.
3) Tronstad cannot turn left on 93, and the light on Reserve and Whitefish stage is seriously inadequate for the peak levels of traffic that exist already: without infrastructure improvements
for which there is no timeline, this will degrade the quality of life for surrounding residents.
The only beneficiaries of this re-zoning will be the special interest construction company who builds here. One only need to look around the valley to see the extent to which this special
interest has been accomodated.
