In Regards to the Warming Center Public Comment from Michell WangDear City Council Members,
The ongoing discussion around the revocation of the permit for the Flathead Warming Center is deeply concerning. I'm worried that revoking the permit will backfire and inadvertently
make the situation worse.
People find themselves in unsheltered situations for a myriad of reasons.. All of which needs to be approached with empathy. With the current housing conditions (and additional complexities)
it is unfortunately too easy for normal people to suddenly lose their housing. I have seen first hand how emergency healthcare costs can bankrupt someone and leave them in a vulnerable,
unsheltered position.
I believe that anyone experiencing unforeseen hardship in life deserves access to public services and support to help get themselves back on track. The Warming Center is part of that
equation.
Homelessness will NOT be solved by shutting down this important safety net.
The Warming Center provides a crucial service for anyone needing to regain their footing. My hope is that our community can come together to help those that need help and understand
that when we raise each other up, we all win. With that being said, I urge the City Council to refrain from revoking the permit for the Flathead Warming Center.
Thank you for your time, energy, and service.
Michell Wang
