PLEASE VOTE NO - Tronstad Meadows & Whitetail Crossing Public Comment from Kristine HurshMayor Johnson & City Councilors, My name is Kristine Hursh. My husband Kevin and I live at 210 Tronstad Road in Kalispell. We have lived in our home for 24 years and love our neighborhood in the Flathead Valley. Many of our neighbors have horses, cows, llamas, goats, dogs and cats on their acreage. Neighbors know each other and enjoy the rural lifestyle we share. We are very concerned about the upcoming vote on the Kalispell Growth Policy Amendment and possible annexing of the 110 acres into the city of Kalispell. We know that progress and growth will happen, but the density of 380 houses being built on property that is currently zoned for 2.5 acres per home is not in the best interest of the surrounding properties or the north end of Kalispell at this time. Tronstad Road and Whitefish Stage Road are both narrow county roads that cannot support all the extra traffic proposed by this project. The safety of our current residents is a huge concern. Any improvements to the affected roads or the addition of a traffic light would be years into the future. Access to Highway 93 headed south is already a problem for Tronstad Road - adding more than 500 additional cars to the mix, along with construction traffic, will only add to the access problems. This would definitely diminish quality of life, safety and the well being for many families in the surrounding neighborhoods. Reserve will be torn up soon for construction. Where will that leave us if Tronstad is torn up too? There are hundreds of lots and homes on the market in Kalispell, there are also new home developments already approved for building. Many apartments are being built in the valley as well. Why change the growth policy? Concentrate on the land that is already part of the policy. The existing infrastructure is not adequate for a new project of this size in this location. The existing well that sits on the property is owned by the 110 acres and other neighbors with water rights. Is there enough water for 380 additional houses and the proposed linking to the Kalispell water system, as well as the people with the existing water rights? Can the water rights be taken away from the other owners? Another big concern to our neighbors is how this big project will affect our wells that serve all our properties. If the whole city of Kalispell is drawing water from that well - will we be negatively affected? The developers have mentioned affordable housing - the price is not affordable for most new home buyers in the valley and the proposed density just makes it look like more profit for the developers. We appreciate Chad Graham's concern and his NO vote at the planning meeting on April 9. Tronstad Road is not ready for this kind of additional traffic and 380 houses being built. Please consider voting NO on this growth policy change, annexation and development. Thank you for your consideration. If you need to contact me, my phone: 406-253-5199
