Comment ahead of Council meeting 5_6_24 Public Comment from Kathleen YaleDear members of the council, I write today in support of Flathead Valley Neighbors and other groups and individuals working to help situation incoming immigrant families. Growing up I had the pleasure of learning about other cultures and experiences from my immigrant grandmother, and through my church community. Diversity makes society stronger, and learning firsthand about the experiences of others fosters empathy and acceptance. This is something we want to resonate with our young children. Our community has been growing and changing in recent years, and I realize there are challenges associated with that growth, but there are also many opportunities. My family has been thrilled to see immigrant families coming to Montana, and we have been happy to support the mission of Valley Neighbors, an organization we are continually impressed by. There is so much heaviness in the world. Being able to help make an actual, tangible difference by welcoming families fleeing unsafe countries of origin makes me feel empowered and hopeful. Immigrants (and the organizations who aid them) make communities stronger and more vibrant. Thank you for your time, Kathleen Yale Columbia Falls, MT
