Homeless Problem Public Comment from Summer Ehmann[NOTICE: This message includes an attachment -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you know the content is safe.]
On January 16, 2024 I was assaulted by an elderly homeless man. I had stopped in the middle of the road on 2nd street as he was crossing the street in the middle of the road. He turned
to look at me and I just gave him the wave that I was letting him continue to cross. And then all of a sudden he turned and there was a very scary looking in his eye, and he came after
me. He punched my driver side window with all of his force, causing my side mirror to bend in and I’m sure he broke his hand. Completely unprovoked. I was so terrified. I had to get
away and slid on the ice and almost hit a parked car. I was so shook up. I just started crying and shaking violently. If my window had been down I can’t imagine what he would’ve done
to my face. I did call the police and they knew instantly who it was. They said he’s in and out of jail every few days, and this isn’t a first incident. I didn’t press charges, but
I was definitely terrified that he would hurt somebody else. This man was not mentally well at all.
I’ve noticed a huge increase in homeless people in Kalispell and just a few years. Something has to change. I am honestly terrified to go downtown Kalispell now. Plus all the trash they
leave behind has made Kalispell look like Portland.
For reference I am a 44 year old blond female and was driving a GMC Denali pickup. I included a photo of the man below. I hope the city council can do something about this increasing
problem!
Sincerely,
