If they would like to ask council for another extension, a request will be brought forward at the second meeting in March. The public parking lot at Third and Main related to this project needs environmental cleanup. This remediation will be needed whether the lot stays in public or goes to private ownership. 02:42:30 Councilor Hunter asked questions and provided discussion about the parking lot related to the Managers announcement. 02:43:27 City Manager Russell announced there will not be a meeting March 11. He will also be out tomorrow afternoon and for the rest of this week for state meetings. Radio and television commercials to educate the public have begun. 02:45:27 Councilor Gabriel asked about information related to an article in the Daily Montanan regarding the water system. 02:46:01 Director Turner referred to a council work session provided about a year ago about emerging contaminants related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other emerging water contaminants. Sampling was conducted and several hits were found for PFAS in two of our well sites. This information goes out in a Consumer Confidence Report that is provided annually with information about water sampling and the results. A webpage has been created to inform the public on health advisories and recommendations by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the levels found in city water source samples. A meeting has been scheduled with the Department of Environmental Quality to talk about funding for the process of drilling alternate water sources. She would encourage the public to call with questions to get all relevant information. More rounds of sampling will be done to see if there is a trend of PFAS in those water sources.
