Res. 6183, MHPG Grant Support Development Services CITY OF 201 1St Avenue East- ALIS�,,ELL Kalispell, Montana 5991 Phone (406) 758-7940 Report To: Doug Russell, City Manager From: Jarod Nygren, Development Services Director Subject: Resolution of Support for the City submission of Depot Park Building Montana Historic Preservation Grant Meeting Date: February 5, 2024 BACKGROUND: The City of Kalispell intends to submit a Montana Historic Preservation Grant (MHPG)to the Montana Department of Commerce for improvements to the Depot Park building. The purpose of the grant request is to enhance the historic landmark's exterior.The project involves installing a new roof, gutters, and exterior paint. The completion of these improvements will transform the landmark into a welcoming space for both the community and visitors. The MHPG Program is a state-funded program created in 2019 as a result of Senate Bill 338, Sections 1 through 17. The MHPG Program is designed to support public or private entities with the preservation of historic sites, historical societies, or history museums through grant funding. The grant application is due February 29, 2024. FISCAL IMPACTS: The grant application will be for $286,338 with a 20% match required ($71,584) for a total project cost of$357,922. The match would come from the West Side— Core Area Tax Increment Finance District. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Council adopt Resolution 6183, a Resolution recommending the City of Kalispell submit a Montana Historic Preservation Grant to the Montana Department of Commerce for improvements to the Depot Park building. ATTACHMENT: Resolution 6183 RESOLUTION NO. 6183 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AN APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF KALISPELL FOR A "MONTANA HISTORIC PRESERVATION" GRANT TO FUND IMPROVEMENTS TO THE DEPOT PARK BUILDING. WHEREAS, the City of Kalispell proposes to submit a Montana Historic Preservation Grant (MHPG)to the Montana Department of Commerce for improvements to the Depot Park building in order to enhance the historic landmark's exterior; and WHEREAS, the City of Kalispell is requesting a grant award in the amount of$286,338 with a 20%match required($71,584) for a total project cost of$357,922; and WHEREAS, since the project enhances a historic building's exterior, the grant application should have the support of the City of Kalispell. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Kalispell City Council approves and fully supports the application of the City of Kalispell for a Montana Historic Preservation Grant(MHPG)to the Montana Department of Commerce for improvements to the Depot Park building in order to enhance the historic building's exterior.
