This letter serves as my written request to be considered for appointment to the Kalispell Downtown Parking Commission. While not a business owner, I've maintained a keen interest in the downtown area. Because our family owned and operated a business in the 300 block of Main street for over 15 years I spent a lot of time, as did much of the community then, enjoying a robust and busy downtown area. ' Our family's interest in the City of Kalispell goes back 4 generations to my Great grandfather Logan who served as Kalispells' 3 rd Mayor initiating the sidewalk, tree and boulevard program, Carnegie Library and the old City Hall. I hope to continue our family's service to the downtown community through the Parking Commission. It's my understanding that, the Parking Commission is currently operating at a loss. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be a part of a newly formed -cooperative effort short for creative long and term approaches to important issues such as permit sales, "rock and rollers", meters as well as parking lots and structures. The Kalispell public is increasingly aware of the polarization and politics currently surrounding the Commission and I would encourage you and the City Council to consider the value in appointing a concerned and active citizen who has no specific business ties and or agendas. With regards to my experience please note below the various boards and projects I've successfully worked with. To that end, I'd like to thank you for carefully considering my interestfor appointment to the Kalispell Downtown Parking Commission and look forward to hearing from you. -Respectfully yours, ebe;cp Gro Jones Rebecca Groose Jones Work Assistant Producer, BJ Production LLC (Digital Effects for feature film and video) • Marketing Communications Director,, Wavefront Technologies Santa Barbara, CA - • Project Coordinator, Hike Bike -Flathead ARC, Kalispell, MT - • ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR Flathead Festival Of The Arts, Kalispell, MT. • Director of Programs, National Down Syndrome Congress, Headquarters --Chicago, III - • Director, Family Life Education - United Cerebral Palsy Association - St. Louis, MO Projects 1990 National Down Syndrome Congress Convention , Memphis Tennessee • 1991 National Down Syndrome Congress Convention, Boston , Massachusetts • St. Louis' First Integrated Easter Event co -sponsored by the City of St. Louis • Development and distribution of quarterly newsletter with readership of over 15,000 • St. Louis' First Metropolitan Disability Resource Fairs with over 150 Vendors Annually • Staff training sessions for telephone Hotline (Hotline created for new parents of children with Down syndrome) • Founder and Coordinator of DAKOTA, organization for fathers of children with disabilities • Founder & Co -facilitator of Sibling & Parent Workshops for families of children with disabilities Media and Community coordination for successful St. Louis Tax proposition campaign Awards 1995 DAKOTA award for "Exceptional And Meritorious Service To Families And Their Children With Developmental Disabilities" 1990 DAKOTA award for "Exceptional And Meritorious Service To Families And Their Children With Developmental Disabilities" 1989 St. Louis Down Syndrome Association for "Outstanding Contribution Award For Service To Children And Adults With Disabilities" Volunteer Work • Flathead Youth Foundation, Kalispell, Montana Current member of the Board of Trustees Habitat for Humanity , Kalispell, Montana Executive officer on the Board of Director, Public Relations / Media Chair, Development Chairman DAKOTA, Inc., St. Louis, Missouri (Not -for -profit organization for fathers of children with developmental disabilities.) I also manage other commercial properties in the wn area. I have attended many meetings to understand which way the board needs to go. My ideas/actions would be the following if I am appointed to the board. 1. Rehire the fired Parking director at a 3 year contract, to resolve future law suits due to wrong - full discharge and other pending actions. 2. Sign a long term lease with the landlord to get rid of this month to month rental. 3. Be pro active to the financial well being of the parking commission by raising the fines back to $ 20.00 per ticket. 4. Hire a full time second parking attendant to patrol the area also. 5. Slowly start buying parking meters to put on I st Ave West and East for customers and em- ployees to use. 6. Strongly opposed to any take over of the parking commission by the Rumored "Downtown Business Improvement District". 7. Let the manager run his deptartment, 8. Have the Parking Commission members as a group, clean the lots we manage by picking up leaves, striping and hauling away junk once a month 9. Be more visible to the downtown businesses, for what we do as a board. 10. Go back thru the past 2 to 3 years board actions and get them corrected. I need to mention right up front that my father is the current landlord for the parking commission loca- ,ion and I have done printing for the parking commission board in the past. Thank yor much, Ron Trippet
