Flatter/Kalispell City AirportI am writing to express my support for the Phase 2 of the Runway
Redevelopment Plan which is currently being debated.
Kalispell is very fortunate in having the facility located within close
proximity to the city center. It encourages people who have business in
town to fly in. There are several restaurants located within close
walking distance from the airport facilities serving transit aircraft
and their crews and passengers. There are also hotel and motel
facilities nearby which encourages overnight stays at those businesses.
The airport is fully self supporting requiring no contribution from the
city tax revenues. Is there another facility of the city which can say
the same thing??
There are some that say there is a noise problem. If they lived in their
present locations where they are bothered by the noise prior to the
original founding of the AIRPARK in 1929, I would have to say that they
are out of bounds as they should have expressed there displeasure prior
to the 70 plus years since the beginning. If they are more current
transferees to the area, they should have realized prior to purchasing
their properties that almost all airplane noise is associated with an
airport of some kind. I personally find it pleasing as it is the sound
of progress and we certainly need all the beneficial progress in
Kalispell that we can find. I believe that the noise pollution on Main
Street/ Hiway 93 in downtown Kalispell far exceeds the level normally
found near the Kalispell City Airport. Does the opposition to the
realignment and improvement of the airport also suggest that we close
down Main Street to traffic. Their objections to the progress to be
made at the airport Is self motivated, selfish, and ill advised.
