Wortman/Kalispell City AirportDear Council Members,
I visited Kalispell a few years ago and was enamored with the beauty of
your city and countryside. I fly my own airplane and hope to return to
Kalispell sometime in the future.
I would like to make a few comments about the controversy concerning
your airport.
First and foremost is that you have an asset that would be very
difficult and expensive to replace. I am assuming that the airport
belongs to the city and most likely has very little if any debt.
You have a valuable asset that many cities the size of Kalispell
would "give their eye teeth" to have in their community.
Montana is the Big Sky Country and with the sparse population
airports are few and far between. This means that any airport is
valuable to the aviation community and industry.
Your airport is a valuable tool for your tourisms' efforts.
Increasing controls by the Transportation Security Authority
will probably make it extremely difficult to construct another airport
in your area.
There are many other reasons that you should carefully consider
before you take steps to close and eliminate an airport. I personally
urge you to keep this valuable asset available to your citizens and
visitors both for now and in the future.
Sincerely,
Henry Wortman
