Weaver/city airportDear council members
My name is Lloyd Weaver from Spearfish, SD.
I am sending you this email regarding some inaccurate comments from the
local group called Quiet Skies.
Due to some statements made by this organization in the past I wanted to
comment on a couple of things.
I have used your airport in the past many times when my family have
traveled to your city to enjoy our property in the Trego area. We enjoy
the access of the airport as well as the proximity of town. We use our
Bonanza throughout the US and Canada and find departing and arriving
over cities to be very common in the US and Canada. We have also used
the airport for various hunting expeditions in your area as well as
backpacking in to the park. We have contributed to your economy via
aviation fuel, meals & lodging in the past and will continue to do the
same in the future provided you keep the airport open.
If you look at the statistics regarding accidents and deaths comparing
airplanes and automobiles you would find that traveling in a car to be
considerably more dangerous. Especially with all the different types of
game crossing the highways.
One statement that used to be prevalent in your area and I don't know if
it still is was "Pray for me I drive Hwy. 93"
I have been a pilot for almost 30 years without a single accident to my
record. My thoughts regarding the safety of General Aviation as well as
the facts are very positive.
I am planning a slow and low cross country with some tail draggers this
summer and will be spending some time at your field.
Hoping you continue to offer the aviation community these services.
Thank you
Lloyd
