Brooks/Kalispell City AirportDear City Council Members,
The economic value of an airport is found in more places than on an
accountants spreadsheet. When a business scouts for a new location an
item on the list that matters is the location of the airport. The value
of airborne access when a natural disaster occurs is at best a
guesstimate, it can be huge.
The level of safety won't change just because of expansion. Larger
aircraft demand greater skill, training and are equipped with redundant
systems. And what about the noise, ever hear 30 Harley Davidsons
thunder down the road? A tour bus or 18 wheeler cranks up the volume
too. Compare those to the noise from a jet that leaves a noise print
maybe twice a day and lasting only seconds out of a 24 hour period.
Noise from ground vehicles is so common folks condition themselves to
ignore it.
If Glacier had always been the only airport in the valley it would
be so busy that the FAA would be searching for a location to lay down a
reliever airport. But thats not necessary thank goodness. City airport
provides an excellent central location and I encourage you to exploit
the advantage it gives Kalispell. The airport has been a great neighbor
for decades, the users deserve your "neighborly" respect and thoughtful
consideration.
