Sherman/City airportI am Charlie Sherman a retired Western/Delta Captain and I want you to
know your City airport is truly an asset to your community. Here are a
few of the pluses to keep the airport open.
Location----------Near businesses, restaurants and hotels in town
Safety-------------Upgrading is a key point to improving safety (VASI,
lengthening, safety zones, width)
Noise--------------Realignment of the runway and traffic patterns will
lessen the noise footprint
Financial---------The impact of closing or moving the airport to local
businesses, The costs to the City to close the airport
Employment----Current employment from the businesses on the airport,
future employment opportunities from these businesses, the employment
from the construction of the improvements.
Pubic Service---Young Eagles, Emergency Medical, Mail/Fed Ex and UPS
Access-----------Access to the parking areas and aircraft without prior
security screening (Rafting trips, Fly-ins, Young Eagles, Gliders,
Camping).
I have landed my personal aircraft many times at the other airport and I
much prefer your city airport for its much more "user friendly"
atmosphere and available close by restaurants and hotels. It was opened
in 1940 and is one of your cities true treasures. We realize your airport
is noise sensitive and I personally use noise abatement procedures that
minimize my noise footprint.Thank you for considering the above reasons
to keep this airport open.
