Thompson/Kalispell City AirportDear Kalispell City Council,
After reading numerous articles and opinions in the Kalispell newspaper
and knowing you have people coming to you with issues daily about this
subject, I need to provide my opinion.
I am a local business owner, born and raised in this valley and returned
in 1996 to raise my children here after being gone 20 years after
graduating from Flathead High. I have located my office across the
street from the city airport just for the convenience as I cover the
Northwest five states. This allows myself and customers to access my
location easily.
I am also a pilot, have an airplane located at Sky Ranch and have a
daughter that became a pilot last year. She personally paid for the
instruction and plane rental at Red Eagle to get her license while still
in High School. She is now in the Air Force ROTC program at Arizona
State.
Flying into this airport as a pilot, has some concerns that would be
resolved with a wider and longer runway which I understand is in the new
plans. I also understand that changing the runway direction would allow
the traffic pattern to be not so directly over downtown Kalispell.
I tell you the above items because this airport is important to the
southern part of Kalispell economy and growth potential. It has allowed
people young and old to follow their dreams and develop leaders for this
great country. Everyone in the vicinity of the airport knew it was there
when they purchased their property, this is not new.
Thank you for listening and doing the right thing,
Chuck Thompson - President
