Beacon Article_CHS Goals_ Solving Homelessness Public Comment from Brad KrantzDear Council Members, A recent article in the Beacon reports that The Collaborative Housing Solutions of Northwest Montana (CHS) <https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fflatheadbeacon.com%2F2022 %2F10%2F09%2Flocal-leaders-meet-to-discuss-increase-in-homelessness%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cabrunckhorst%40kalispell.com%7Cb93986237221476e052a08dba7683e69%7C6219d736f71146359cbaff616a81b398%7C1%7C0%7C6382 87838451202531%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=2Spee51ixnhyLlCCYHpBNMU4VReDJFEHeQ0%2F1zJlj3o%3D&reserved=0> have outlined their goals and strategies to mitigate housing instability while inviting elected local leaders to join the conversation. It says, “The group outlined strategies that could be implemented to help solve homelessness, which includes increasing emergency shelter space; improving coordination and communication efficiency; increasing low-income housing stock; increasing public awareness and community involvement; and launching a crisis response system.” While perhaps noble in cause and intent, increasing emergency shelter space and low-income housing stock will not solve the homeless crises here in Kalispell. You only need to look to Seattle as a wholesale failure after implementing similar policies. I urge you not to support these measures, but to work with others in the community to come up with more effective means to deal with this matter. Please seek community comment before acting.
