Karlene Kohrs Water rates commentsDear City Council members,
To raise water rates by 25 percent in three months time is a bridge too far for many folks in Kalispell.
There is an anticipated 10 percent rate increase this month of July and now a proposed 15 percent increase in the Fall which is simply onerous and hardly allows time for budgets to adjust
to the July water rate increase before another comes down the pike to strike the pocketbook.
This is unnecessarily hard and punishing to the seniors, young families and what’s left of the working middle class in Kalispell.
It’s difficult to believe with all the Covid monies and now infrastructure monies the City did not avail themselves to those funds to help.
Why aren’t you looking at increasing the hook up fees for developers? You gave them quite a break and we all know meter hook up fees are not going to stop or curtail development or developers.
So raise those fees back to their original amount and add 25 percent.
Not even egg prices rose 25 percent in three months time.
It also saddens me this discussion which impacts so many is being held in the summer. The best time to pull one over a busy populace, I guess. This is not nice and not the Kalispell
I knew.
Look to other avenues before you put another burden on the backs of your citizens.
