Homeless people and Tramps etc on Main Street Public Comment from Karlene KhorDear City Council members: If you truly want to keep us safe, you need to create a city ordinance, which would allow you to send these homeless mentally ill folks to the facility in Warm Springs (I understand it’s to be reopened) and the ones with drug problems need to be arrested. Don’t think you can’t solve this problem because you can. Today, we had a woman, probably in her 40s filthy from head to toe, come into our shop and harass us telling us she owned this building and this shop. We had to escort her out of the shop. On another occasion, we had a fellow who came in to tell us he was the mayor and that he wanted to do an inspection. On another occasion, we had a man come in and tell us he was hearing confessions at Saint Matthews at 3 o’clock and everyone in the shop was invited. These instances are not funny. These folks can become a danger to our customers, our staff and to shop owners. We have to deal with them and get them out of our shops. On another occasion, we had some tourists who ran into our shop terrified because there was a man screaming and yelling, walking up and down the Main Street. They wanted to know if Kalispell was a safe place. We called the police and did fill out a report. This needs YOUR immediate attention, our businesses downtown are under daily siege by these folks. I really fear one of these homeless mentally ill or drugged people is going to have a physical altercation and hurt innocent people. While you’re thinking about this at the very least this summer can a policeman be spared to walk the Main Street ? We need to know we are safe in our own shops.
