A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE AN APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF KALISPELL TO
THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR A GRANT TO FUND A
MULTI -USE PATH CONNECTION FOR FOUR MILE DRIVE AT THE KALISPELL
YOUTH ATHLETIC COMPLEX.
WHEREAS, the Montana Department of Transportation's (MDT) Transportation Alternatives
grant program provides funding to local governments to support transportation
projects for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other non -motorized forms of transportation
in order to achieve compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Kalispell proposes to construct a multi -use path connection extending a
distance of 815 feet beginning on the north side of Four Mile Drive at the west end
of the Kalispell Youth Athletic Complex (KYAC), to connect the existing trail
system on the east side of the Bypass alongside the Bloomstone site; and
WHEREAS, the Youth Athletic Complex is utilized by up to 75,000 to 90,000 participants and
spectators annually and the adjacent housing development provides housing for
hundreds of residents and this project would be the final connector for pedestrians
and bicyclists creating a safe and complete system of the area; and
WHEREAS, the proposed improvements are identified as a priority project within the adopted
MOVE 2040 Transportation Plan; and
WHEREAS, since the project meets all criteria of the MDT Transportation Alternatives grant
application for such funding it should have the support of the City of Kalispell.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KALISPELL AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The Kalispell City Council approves and fully supports the application of
the City of Kalispell for an MDT Transportation Alternatives funding grant
to construct a multi -use path connection.

THE CITY OF KALISPELL, THIS 6TH DAY OF FEBRUARY 2023.
