Mayor Johnson and City Council Members:
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Jon Fetveit and I live at 245 5th Avenue East, own the Glacier Building
and am a long time board member for the Kalispell Business Improvement District.
I want to voice my strong support for the actions taken to close and fence off the covered pavilion in Depot park. We
must make it very clear to everyone that criminal abuse of our city parks and precious downtown will not be
tolerated. If we do not, we will lose the momentum we've built to revitalize downtown Kalispell. Depot Park, the
Chamber of Commerce and the Kalispell Visitors Center should be shining examples of the functionality and
desirability of our community.
I am also in favor of whatever new city code will best help the police department and other community resources to
swiftly address this critical problem in Depot Park, Woodland Park and public spaces downtown. In addition to the
proposals presented last night, I wonder if we might consider closing the city parks earlier - 1 hour after sunset.
In addition to these short-term efforts, the public needs to understand the severe shortage of jail capacity and
treatment centers in Flathead County. It's a county -wide problem for which the City of Kalispell bears the brunt.
believe the city can help raise the visibility of these issues to voters.
Thank you for your service to the community.
