Subject: EXTERNAL Commissioner's Referendum on the homeless population
Dear Kalispell City Council Members;
I read with disgust, the County Commissioners latest missive on the homeless situation here in the valley. Conveniently,
their narrative was void of any type of solution to the issue, rather, only a mandate to eliminate support for this sector
of society.
Is homelessness an issue in our valley? Yes. Are there solutions that ought to be brought forward by our leaders in
government? Yes. Is one of those solutions an edict to churches and non-profit organizations to stop their support of
these individuals? NO!
It is VERY easy for the Commissioners to look down upon poverty, all the while suckling at the teat of government.
Clearly, none of these commissioners has performed a charitable act in their lives.
As a Director for a non-profit organization that eliminates school lunch debt for students who fall at or below the
poverty line, and who lack the funds or access to food while at school here in the Flathead, I encourage a sound
rejection of the Commissioners missive regarding the elimination of support for this sector of society. The answer to this
problem is out there and I believe we're all smart enough to find it. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Mickey Lapp
