EXTERNAL Review of Potential Ordinances Related to Public Parks
Greetings,
I sympathize with the intractable problem of homelessness. So long as political will does not exist to subsidize affordable
housing (truly affordable housing), this issue will be with us.
Fortunately, as evidenced by the large turnout for the pro -life activists marching in downtown Kalispell on Saturday, we
have many people in the valley committed to protecting and preserving human life. If every one of these marchers
"adopted" a homeless person, we would have the problem solved.
The Flathead County commissioners' recent pronouncement placing blame on service providers flies in the face of those
who rely on deeply held faith and values to shape and care for their community.
Perhaps Kalispell can start by forging connections between pro -human activists and those who lives they can improve
and even save from the hazards of homelessness. The chance to put ideals into action is at hand.
Pushing the homeless around town exponentially increases the impacts. The city has made sweetheart deals of parking
lots, etc., to developers for "market -rate" housing and parking. I am sure it can find a similar underused piece of land or
parking lot to use as a hangout space for those with nowhere else to go.
Solutions will require creativity and investment, both in terms of effort and funds.
Thank you for your service to our city, Meg Davis
