Hello,
I wanted to take exception to Ryan Hunter on his comment about the Flathead Commissioners. Hard to say where most
of the homeless are coming from. I would suspect many are not specifically from here. I do know that there does seem
to be many more of them over the last year or so. I work in City Center so I can tell you first hand as I see them
everyday. The same ones standing or sitting around ALL DAY!! They have become a nuisance to the park and local
businesses. I see the garbage and the needles in the parking lots. I see them sit in Super One and wander the Rails to
Trails. This whole situation has become unsafe. You want to revitalize this area yet turn it into hobo central?
While I am sure the cost of housing and rent play a role in affordability, everything has gone up in the last few years, so
that is a very lame excuse.
You want affordable or subsidized housing? Look to the inner cities, how did that work out? Please, with all due respect,
get your heads out of the sand and face reality. I listen to the bleeding hearts with empathy and compassion, how about
we drop them off in their front yards? I live here, I work here, I pay taxes here and I deserve a safe and clean
environment to do so. There are so many reasons this problem exists that it will never be solved. I watch these people
sit around all day and make no effort to better their lives. No effort to find a job.
No effort to get clean.
One final point, after meeting several visitors to the valley over the past year or so, the first thing that has been
mentioned was exactly this issue. Is this the vacation destination you want to create?
Thank you,
Scott Brownlee
