Subject: EXTERNAL Warming shelter, Depot park
City of Kalispell
Hi I am inquiring with my concern of the safety and well being of our town. I am noticing consistent living in the pavilion
at Depot park. Day and night it is full of mattresses, packs, blankets, garbage and personal belongings and people
sleeping and staying there. We need to maintain the integrity or our town and keep things kept up so it is safe for us tax
paying citizens to use as well. The nice new rail trail turned out very nice but as an adult I do not feel safe walking on it
let alone taking kids on it. The warming shelter seems like a great idea for our LOCALS IN NEED but now we are inviting
transients in from other towns. Whitefish police are giving them rides to our town because we have "accommodations"
for them. That is not what it was meant for or approved for. This has also caused a dramatic increase in the drug use in
our valley unfortunately. The businesses close to there are having to move or shorten their hours for their own safety.
Now we are hurting their lively hood and taking away from their families because they can't work full days. Sad
situation we are in and we must make changes to improve before it gets worse. Our community has shown that we will
go to great lengths to help each other! For example maverick's army the young man that lost his life last year, the
families that recently lost their homes to fires and many others. We will come together like no other community to
help! What are we doing to help these homeless get back on their feet and get jobs??? We to take action now. Thank
you for your time. Tracy Gardner.
