Subject: EXTERNAL Depot Park, Rail Trail & Warming Shelter
City of Kalispell,
I am increasingly becoming more and more concerned for my safety and safety of others in our community. I drive by
Depot park every day on my way to work and it appears the city is allowing people to live there? It is not the image we
want for our town nor is it creating a safe and healthy environment! As a local tax paying citizen I am scared to go there
and that is not acceptable! The beautiful new rail trail is also not a safe place to go as an adult let alone take
children. What are we doing to help get this under control? I also want to know what good the warming shelter is
doing?? I understand helping those in our community but from my understanding a lot of them are not from
here. What is the warming shelter doing to encourage these people to get back on their feet and be productive
members of society. We don't want to encourage this as a lifestyle. Do the people who get to stay there have to go
through any screening? There is help out there for those that qualify!! It's alarming to hear other communities are
sending people here because we have "services" for them. I am a firm believer in being proactive and getting a plan
together on how we can combat this problem and not sitting around waiting for it to get worse or something horrible
to happen. Let's remember these are breeding grounds for drug abuse!!!
Sincerely,
Julie Gardner
