09-20-22 Conrad Mansion Museum MinutesConrad Mansion Museum Board of Directors Meeting
Sept. 20, 2022, 4:00 p.m.
Kalispell City Hall
1. Welcome- Members present: Mark Schickendantz, Teri Iwerson, Diane Morton Stout, Beth
Collier, Katharine King, Diane Medler, Gary Havens, Mary Pat Murphy, Carrie Nelson, family
member Natalie Robinson, and Museum Director Brit Clark.
2. Approval of minutes -There was no meeting in August.
3. Treasurer's Report- Mark Schickendantz reviewed the financial statements.
4. Committee Reports -
Maintenance (Mark)
• Ringquist Signs, the company that the brick engraving order was submitted to, has not
been responding to calls or emails. Mark followed up on the situation and found that
the company is looking to sell to a new owner. We are not the only project that has
been left hanging. Fortunately, we are not in the middle of laying bricks. There are not a
lot of other engraving firms in town. Donors for the brick project will be updated as
needed.
5. Museum Director's Report-
• The city's insurance company has been good to work with. Contractor bids for cedar
shingles have been obtained. Realistically, it will be hard to finish this job before winter
due to contractor time and availability. Lesley Gilmore, the architect we worked with on
our CAP assessment, is researching options to help maximize the life of the new roof
and maintain historic integrity.
• The city has fixed up and painted the Heritage Park restrooms. There have been a few
issues with transients (locking themselves in restroom at closing time, one flashed Joni,
pulling up plants from gardens). Staff use the buddy system when taking care of the
restrooms. Diane shared that other community spaces are also experiencing issues and
it would be an appropriate time to convey what is happening.
• Tour season is on par for post pandemic visitation. We are not seeing Canadians like
usual.
• Great Fish Challenge- We met our goal of raising the funds for matching. $13,223 was
raised and eligible for the matching amount plus a few donations that were sent directly
to the Mansion. The award ceremony will be Oct. 17t". We had over 60 donors.
• Garden Project 2022- Tyler and Jeanie will no longer be assisting Joni with the gardens.
One option would be to have a professional gardener on retainer to offer advice to Joni
and give accurate overview of the status of the gardens. Joni can set up accounts with
same vendors currently used with Bibler's and maintain the garden budget and
ordering. Board members expressed appreciation for how much Joni and staff care
about the Mansion and the work they do. Tyler has submitted the invoice for annuals
and it has been paid.
• The Bibler Foundation sent a check for $20,000 to be used at the board's discretion.
• Fairy Walks have been successful and the Interlake will feature them in a story.
• The last fashion tour with Theresa will be moved to Oct. 13t" in order to not be so close
to Ghost Tours.
6. Consideration of application for Board of Director's position-
• Mary Pat will invite Gail Erickson to the October board meeting.
7. Adjourn- 4:58 p.m. Next meeting Oct. 18, 2022
