I oppose any structure in beautiful and historic downtown Kalispell over the current skyline of 3 stories. Eight stories is
absurd. Deny this CUP proposal with its 88 ft of additional height.
This monstrosity does not comply with any plans including the Kalispell Growth Policy Plan- 2035, the
Downtown Kalispell Urban Renewal Plan, and the the Design Standards for the Downtown Historic
District.
This structure would pemanently change and mar our city of trees and historic skyline viewed from most everywhere in
the valley and foothillls. The project would give away public city land in exchange for potential taxes on private wealthy
residences and businesses that may not even be needed or occupied. What the city really needs is parking and
affordable housing and city taxes on other city developments should be able to pay for that.
There are also other great alternatives. The city could incentivise and encourage a sizeable but not necessarily tall
parking and affordable housing structure on the west end of the mall next to and on top of empty Herberger's which has
larger footprint and would not pollute our skyline.
The wool is being pulled over your eyes by big out-of-state developers who are taking advantage of our working town
and imposing their ideas on our relatively apathetic community.
Please follow our current existing historic downtown guidelines and consider a city -owned modest parking or other
facility using with tax increment funding that fits with the neighborhood on the city land or elsewhere downtown. Or
consider other alternatives that meet community standards and needs.
Thank you.
