Parkline "Towers" Public Comment from Carla MossAimee Brunckhorst From: Carla Moss <carlaannericksonmoss@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2022 8:20 PM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Parkline "Towers" Follow Up Flag: Follow up Flag Status: Flagged Dear members of the council, Thank you for considering this opinion (of many) regarding the recent article about the Parkline "Towers" project being developed at the old Rygg Ford lot. I have sent the email below to Brent Brown of Greenway Development as my opinion, hoping a better solution might be made to building a more thoughtful, appropriate design to show our valley's personality and progressive thinking. Their current, unimaginative, dark rendering is not what the citizens of Kalispell deserve. Our future housing should be creative, colorful, bold, and inspiring. It should, and will, be welcoming to all who reside within the walls of ALL new building adventures in ALL of Flathead Valley. Thank you all for contemplating what must be re -visited for our future. Carla Erickson Moss 223 Garland Street Kalispell, MT 59901 Brent Brown, Parkline Towers: Regarding the Parkline Towers project in Kalispell, I'm happy to see this area developed into a usable and productive space. However, I would like to see the actual plans, interior and exterior, as they develop. Currently, you have a rendering of the proposed "Towers" (but not actually towers). In viewing this rendering I'm very disappointed in that this appears to be a dark, depressing image, recalling tenements I've seen in many cities in the United States. Perhaps the lack of good, exciting design and some very depressing characteristics, ie. the "institutional" design look is what makes me feel that you can do much, much better. Is this how Kalispell, Montana should look? Is it beyond good, imaginative design talent that you couldn't come up with a better representative of our beautiful, colorful valley? With our winters so long and the absence of those stimulating colors all those dark months, couldn't you have added have some "sunny" elements and playfulness in this prominent structure? As a designer, artist, and very architecturally savvy person, the way this is being presented, I'm giving it a thumbs down. This looks like the federal government's tenement style of construction. I can't imagine driving by this and loving it. I most certainly wouldn't want to come home to this dark, enclose space. As a taxpayer (big time) and as a Kalispell native, I say, TRY BETTER! Add some character, some Scandinavian elements/appeal (as most of here are) and various levels/ varying wall structures and materials. Yes, add real towers with views all around, East, West, North, South, of our glorious mountains and valley. Imagine telescopes and viewing windows! With our historical Woodlawn Park below, you must create something that relates to our land. This structure is what I saw of students in my first year of architecture --no imagination as to how a building MUST relate to the site! Thank you! I hope to see better from you.
