SUBJECT: Firefighter/Paramedic Confirmation for Luke "Gus" Butler
MEETING DATE: August 1, 2022
BACKGROUND: Luke "Gus" Butler is being presented for confirmation as a
Firefighter/Paramedic for the Kalispell Fire Department as he has successfully completed the one-
year probationary period and all appointment requirements as of July 19, 2022.
Gus was born and raised in Frenchtown, Montana. He comes from a Fire Service Family as his
father worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Missoula office. Gus was naturally drawn to the Fire
Service and did 4 years of wildland firefighting after high school. He attended Utah Valley
University to obtain his paramedic certification and a bachelor's degree in emergency management.
There he worked part time for Unified Fire Authority and full time as a paramedic for University of
Utah's emergency room. He married Kaleigh in 2018 (Missoula Native) and in February they had
their first child, Taysom. Gus is glad to be here in the Flathead and loves what Northwest Montana
has to offer.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that Council confirm Firefighter/Paramedic Luke
"Gus" Butler to the Kalispell Fire Department.
