Box 1997, 201 First Avenue East KALISPELL Kalispell, Montana, 59903 www.kalispell.com REPORT TO: Doug Russell, City Manager FROM: Aimee Brunckhorst, CMC, City Clerk & Communications Manager SUBJECT: Appointment to the Technical Advisory Committee MEETING DATE: August 1, 2022 BACKGROUND: The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) coordinates transportation planning and recommends project needs and priorities to the Kalispell Council, Flathead County Commissioners, and the Montana Department of Transportation regarding: • Local objectives, community values, community goals and policies to guide development. • Professional and technical considerations involved in plans and decisions. • Long- and short-range plans and programs for development of the area. • Programs for financing, staging, administering or otherwise implementing the transportation plan. • Solutions to specific development problems. Two city residents represent the City of Kalispell on the TAC Board, as do the City Manager, and the Development Services Director. The Committee has one ongoing vacancy and has received one new application. RECOMMENDATION: Mayor Johnson appoint, and City Council confirm the appointment of Catherine Walker to serve as a city representative on the TAC Committee for a two-year term ending April 30, 2024. Smart design and organizing the existing transportation cooridors to manage the current traffic flow and anticipate furture needs is paramount to the future of the Valley. With Kalispell at the heart of the Valley, it is imperative to provide new ideas to conquer the growing issues surrounding traffic and road maintenance. Detail any education, knowledge, or experience you have which would be beneficial to this board, committee or commission: As a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Montana, I have a background in planning and design. My education and work experience lends itself well to problem solving and exploring ideas that may be outside the typical approach. Additionally, my work experience has afforded me the opportunity to work with many officials from various municipalities and state agencies. I have technical experience in grading, and circulation design, as well as a keen eye for providing pedestrian oriented interface with transportation corridors.
