Join our sign-on letter calling on Walmart to go solar Public Comment from Georgia WlukaAimee Brunckhorst From: Georgia Wluka <georgia.wluka@environmentamerica.org> Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2022 3:06 PM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Re: Join our sign -on letter calling on Walmart to go solar Dear Mayor and Councilmembers, The deadline to sign our letter to Walmart, urging them to commit to installing solar on their expansive rooftops by 2035, is only a few days away. You can read the letter and add your name at this link. If Walmart commits to go solar it would be a win for businesses, consumers, and the environment. Using the roofs and parking lots of our nation's big box stores to produce solar energy will help us reduce emissions, gain energy independence and resilience, and create job opportunities. Walmart has the power to do just that by committing to install solar panels on all viable roofs and parking lots by 2035. We're putting together a broad coalition of voices calling for more Solar on Superstores, and elected officials like you will be especially influential in this endeavor. Sign on here by July 21st to support solar energy solutions. Thanks, Georgia On Wed, Jul 6, 2022 at 6:01 PM Georgia Wluka<georgia.wluka@environmentamerica.org> wrote: Dear Mayor and Councilmembers, Hope this email finds you well. My name is Georgia Wluka and I am a clean energy intern with Environment America. I'm writing to ask you to add your name to this Elected Official Sign on Letter, which calls on Walmart to install solar panels on all its viable roofs and parking lots by 2035. Signatures on the letter are due July 21st. With their wide roofs and sprawling parking lots unobstructed from the sun, big box stores are perfect places to ramp up our solar energy production. The combined roof area of Montana's big box stores could generate 244 megawatts of solar capacity. That's enough to power 26,000 average American homes and eliminate 208,000 metric tons of carbon emissions (Solar on Superstores, 29). Walmart has already installed solar panels on over 500 of its U.S. locations, which is a great start. However, that means 4,500 stores aren't generating solar power, a missed opportunity for our environment, our economy and our people. We want to demonstrate to Walmart that decision makers across the country support more Solar on Superstores for their communities.
