STREET TREE BOARD
Minutes
Wednesday, June 9, 2021, 4 - 5 p.m.
In attendance: Martin Rippens, Judy Rosenfeld Cox, April Vomfell, Tony Nelson, Public
Ali Ulwelling, And Staff: Fred B, Colter H
Public Comment:
No public comment was given.
Approve Minutes:
Martin made a motion to approve the May minutes as presented, April seconded, motion carried.
Current Business:
➢ Develop Work Plan
• The board reviewed past years work plans. Looking at each action item on the plan
and evaluating its relevance to present day.
• Things the board would like to see continued; Arbor Day, Senior Notable Tree Tour,
Tree walk in a city park, workshops about planting and pruning, developing
educational articles about tree issues, promoting watering of young trees, and
promoting the 50/50 cost share program.
• Things the board decided to remove from current work plan, Promoting Tree at
FVCC, Award program for recognizing good tree work in Kalispell, engaging
citizens in volunteering for tree maintenance, presenting at council quarterly.
➢ Program Development Grant
• Cost Share Trees
Fred stated that 30 cost share trees have been planted this spring leaving 22 to be
planted in the fall.
• Billboard
Fred showed the board the 1st draft of the Billboard designed to raise awareness
of the benefits of trees with the community. The board then discussed the
concept of developing a campaign based off the theme of the billboard utilizing

the images developed. Board agreed to develop some messaging around the
themes:
• Mental Health/Less Depression- April
• Clean air/pollutants- Tony
• Lower temperatures- Martin
• Higher test scores- Fred
➢ Red Oak Review
No action has occurred yet as Red Oaks have just now leafed out fully. Martin and Tony
will follow up before next meeting.
➢ Arborist Update – Colter
Colter informed the group that the crew is on 4th Ave E currently on the 600 block working
north. A pruning contact to prune trees in the EN side of town is near completion. The
contractor also is pruning trees along Woodland Ave as well as 8th Ave E.
