Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
Hope this email finds you well. My name is Georgia Wluka and I am a clean energy intern with Environment
America. I'm writing to ask you to add your name to this Elected Official Sign on Letter, which calls on
Walmart to install solar panels on all its viable roofs and parking lots by 2035. Signatures on the letter
are due July 21st.
With their wide roofs and sprawling parking lots unobstructed from the sun, big box stores are perfect places to
ramp up our solar energy production. The combined roof area of Montana's big box stores could generate 244
megawatts of solar capacity. That's enough to power 26,000 average American homes and eliminate 208,000
metric tons of carbon emissions (Solar on Superstores, 29).
Walmart has already installed solar panels on over 500 of its U.S. locations, which is a great start. However,
that means 4,500 stores aren't generating solar power, a missed opportunity for our environment, our economy
and our people.
We want to demonstrate to Walmart that decision makers across the country support more Solar on
Superstores for their communities. You can read the letter and add your name at this link up until July
21. If you have any questions or thoughts, you can reach me at georgia.wluka(C)-environmentamerica.org.
Thanks,
Georgia
