I am delighted to hear the empty lots in downtown Kalispell are of interest to developers. However, unless I
misunderstand, City of Kalispell is proposing to GIVE the prime lots to developers for a hotel site and a parking lot site
both of which I assume will benefit developers in return for future tax monies.
Is the City of Kalispell really so flush that we can afford to give away premier real estate? Right now we are on
everyone's radar and everyone wants a piece of our pie? This feels like the time to be more forward looking and for a
bit more hard ball.
As cities go we have been pretty poor and ordinary people with small incomes are paying lots of property
taxes. Amenities are slim and always underfunded. We have a lot of sports complexes but only one water feature and
both of our major parks could stand some large infusions of money. Streets are full of holes and sidewalks are only
sporadic and in mostly bad shape.
I watched some pretty big give aways in my lifetime ... I was born and raised here and lived at least half of my life
here... and while I did understand we were not always in a bargaining position that is not the case right now. Please
take some time to consider this and the longtime healthy and prosperous future of this valley .
